Have you ever worked on a project or assignment where your mind just went blank? You keep on coming up with the same ideas over and over or you’re just not sure how to get started. Try these three simple ideas to jumpstart your creative juices:
- Research Your Topic Online: Whether it’s background information, resources, or how to information, going to the internet to look for additional information is a great way to get ideas and stimulate your thinking. Sometimes, we need just enough data in order to know how to proceed forward. If your work is in a highly specialized area, make sure to leverage credible resources in your industry or field. You don’t always have to create new ideas, rather the best ideas to meet your business’s needs.
- Ask a Colleague for Advice: The mere act of having a dialogue or discussion can create new ideas. Reach out to a colleague you respect and who has a track record of implementing sound strategies for their ideas and advice on your project. Collaboration is one of the most powerful tools to leverage when you have people around you who can help guide your work.
- Hold A Brainstorming Meeting: Maybe you’ve been tasked with a new initiative for your company that has high visibility. This doesn’t mean you have to do everything yourself. You could call a brainstorming meeting with key colleagues who have valuable input and insights on how to proceed with your project. Make sure to explain the purpose of your initiative, the intended outcomes to your organization and why you’ve invited them to the meeting. Continue to then spend your meeting asking for each individual’s input on the best approach to move forward.
